These verses refers to the great Temple of the Old Covenant where God was present. You will remember that the Temple was very beautiful, it was highly symbolic in its construction, its color scheme, its ornamentation. And it had three parts: the outer court, the inner court, and the Holy of Holies. But here it says that every Christian is the temple of God - the dwelling place of God. The Holy Spirit of God lives in you. Like that temple you have three parts: your outer court is your physical body, your inner court is your soul (intellect, will, emotions), and your Holy of Holies is your spirit. The Bible says God lives in you - at the moment of salvation, He makes a temple of your life; God moves in and takes up residence. If your life is the temple of God, then some things that were true of the OT Temple must be true of you, too.
