Connect with Church
by Kelly Thrift
Since I can remember, I have had what most people consider “the connection” to the church. I’ve had my name on a Sunday School roll and a letter of membership! Funny thing how even with those in place, there have been times when I never felt more disconnected from the church. Those times have one thing in common; I was just showing up to church and not serving in any capacity.I know, at this point, some of you are starting to sweat in fear of even the thought of serving in church. I used to be one of those people. Then one day, I decided to commit to being a choir member (yes, choir is a form of service to the church), and all of a sudden I was connecting with people I otherwise would have never conversed with. I now serve in a number of ways, and I have never been more connected with the church. It is ironic how when you are doing a service for the church, you end up being served through new and stronger relationships and numerous other ways.
I encourage you to connect to your church through service. Don’t worry, that doesn’t just mean being a Sunday School teacher. It can be anything from opening doors on Sunday mornings to serving tea on Wednesday nights to changing diapers in the nursery. You will be blessed by the connections you will make by working side by side with other members of the Body of Christ.
Don’t just be connected to your church, be a functioning connection.
